JEFFERSON Louis and Ravi Shamsi scored as Banbury United completed their pre-season schedule with a 2-1 success at home to Mangotsfield United on Saturday.

Tom Winters, on the Banbury left, delivered some enticing crosses that on another day would have produced many more goals

Shamsi had a shot brilliantly blocked by defender George Nash early on, while Louis was twice denied by visiting keeper Ashley Newman.

The Puritans finally took the lead on the half-hour, when Louis intercepted a poor pass and slotted past Newman with ease.

For the visitors, George Lloyd fizzed a shot wide a post.

Six minutes before the interval, the home side doubled their lead when Shamsi received the ball just inside the box, before coolly striking it into the bottom corner.

Just before half-time Mangotsfield were awarded a penalty for a tug of shirts, but keeper Jack Harding dived to his right to save Lewis Hogg’s spot-kick.

Banbury’s Sam Humphreys fired against a post before the Somerset side replied through Danny Edwards in the 77th minute.

The Puritans will be hoping for a winning start when they host Dorchester in their first Evo-Stik South League Premier clash.

Substitute Elliott Osborne-Ricketts netted twice as Kidlington won 4-1 away to Evo-Stik South League newcomers Thame United.

By the time he came on in the second half, the visitors were already leading 2-0, having scored either side of the interval through Anaclet Odhiambo and Declan Benjamin.

Osborne-Rickets made it 3-0 when he got on the end of a fine cross from triallist Ryan Bubb.

Thame replied in the 81st minute, before Osbourne-Ricketts completed the scoring with a deflected shot four minutes later.

Didcot Town had to come from behind in their 4-1 victory at home to Cwmbran Celtic.

The visitors capitalised on an error to take the lead, only for the hosts to level minutes later as George Jeacock struck from close range.

The Railwaymen scored again just before the break, when a poor goalkick fell to Oxford United youngster Dejon Noel Williams, who fired home.

Didcot made it 3-0 in the second half through Sam Elkins’s deflected free-kick, while George Reid, making his first start this pre season, added a fourth.

Two first-half goals from George Seacole gave North Leigh a 2-0 victory at home to Easington Sports.

Letcombe won 2-1 at home to North Berks League side East Hendred, despite going behind to a goal from Tom Austin.

The Uhlsport Hellenic League hosts added second-half scores from Conor Lynch and defender Joel Mumby.
