SIMON Eastwood believes Oxford United can be 'quietly confident' about preserving their status in Sky Bet League One next season after today's win at Doncaster Rovers.

James Henry headed the only goal of the game in the 63rd minute, having only just come on as a substitute.

The victory - only United's second on the road since November - lifted Karl Robinson's side up to 16th place, six points above the bottom four.

While many of the sides below them have a game in hand, their total of 53 points has been enough to stay up for every season since the 1980s.

Goalkeep Simon Eastwood said: "I think it’s a matter of opinion at the moment, but I think you fancy your chances on 53 points.

"There are a lot of teams below who have got to play each other and they’re going to have to win all the games.

"I think we’re quietly confident, but we’ve got Rochdale next week and if we could get a positive result against them then we’ll go forward."

Henry agreed: "We came here to win and finish the season off in good form.

"We wanted to get those three points and not be looking over our shoulders for the next two games."

Head coach Robinson left Henry out of the starting XI due to a minor injury concern.

Before the game he had challenged the substitutes to do more - and was thrilled with the response.

He said: "Jamo had a back problem in the week. He didn’t train on Monday and struggled on Tuesday.

"I just felt we had enough legs to compete and stay at 0-0.

"We always knew if it was level we had something else. It sounds like a smart answer, but we knew we had goals in Jamo.

"I had a go at them before the game.

"I said our subs haven’t made a difference enough this year and they’ve just shut me up."
