OXFORD’S Todd Stanmore starred as the Southern boys under 13 team won gold at the England Inter-Regional finals.

The 12-year-old Abingdon Prep pupil won every match as they competed against nine other teams at one of Table Tennis England’s flagship events.

Playing alongside Felix Thomis (Reading), the duo won every group match 5-0 against South East, London, East Midlands and West Midlands to get through to the final, where they faced the North West

After Thomis won his singles match, Stanmore defeated Liam Murphy 11-8, 11-3, 11-6 to make it 2-0.

The boys combined to win the doubles 3-1 (11-0, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7) against Murphy and Adam Dennison to seal an unassailable 3-0 scoreline.

Stanmore said: “There were some tough matches, especially against the South East and North West, but we played well and motivated each other and it feels good to win.”

In the individual event, Stanmore, the fourth seed, reached the semi-finals where he lost to teammate Thomis, the second seed, who won 11-6, 15-13, 13-11 and went on to take the title.
