NICO Hulkenberg drove a great race to come fifth for the Enstone-based Renault team in a dramatic German Grand Prix at Hockenheim.

The German, who consolidated his seventh place in the drivers’ standings, finished well clear of teammate, Carlos Sainz, who was 12th.

It was another good race for the Haas team, from Banbury, with Romain Grosjean coming sixth while Kevin Magnussen was just out of the points in 11th.

The Grove-based Williams’s poor season continued when Sergey Sirotkin and Lance Stroll both retired on the 51st and 52nd lap respectively.

Lewis Hamilton claimed one of the most remarkable victories after championship rival Sebastian Vettel crashed out from the lead.

Hamilton started only 14th after a mechanical failure in qualifying, but took the chequered flag.
