FOOTBALL: Late goals hit Abingdon

Abingdon's unbeaten run of four games came to an end when they conceded two goals in the last seven minutes of their Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West game to lose 3-1 against Poole at the Armadillo Energy Stadium on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead shortly before half-time when a low ball into the six-yard box rolled kindly for Kevin Gill, who lashed it home from inside the six-yard box.

Sam Collier nearly equalised a minute later, but pulled his shot wide of the far post.

Carl Evans came on for Sam Packer, and ten minutes into the second half, Abingdon equalised.

Aaron Parfitt hit a sweet volley on the turn through a ruck of players and into the net.

The next 20 minutes saw both sides battling for the winning goal.

Poole achieved it seven minmutes from time when Scott Joyce headed home from a corner.

The visitors made it a flattering 3-1 just before the end thanks to a briliant piece of skill from Steve Smith, who flicked the ball forward with his heel before sending a dipping volley over Abingdon keeper James Foster.
