SEAN Rigg was more tense than most penalty takers in Oxford United ’s shoot-out win on Tuesday – because he had never taken one before.

The 23-year-old found the net from 12 yards (above) to help complete a perfect five out of five for the U’s as Bournemouth were knocked out of the Capital One Cup 5-3 on penalties after the game finished goalless.

Rigg, who was making his debut, does not even practise them regularly in training.

He said: “That was my first one ever in competitive football.

“I was a bit nervous at the beginning, but once I stepped up I felt fine.

“They said to me I’d be third and I accepted straight away, I knew I’d have to take one sooner or later.

“I think I’ll definitely take more now, I’ll be the first to put my hand up if I’m asked.”

Rigg comes up against his former club, Bristol Rovers, tomorrow in the opening game of the npower League Two season.

The winger, who spent four years with the Pirates, enjoyed his first trip back to the Memorial Stadium last season, when he scored in a 3-0 win for Port Vale.

“I didn’t go mad with the celebrations so I think the supporters appreciated that and they gave me a clap for my goal, so it was really good,” he said.

“The same again this weekend would be great.”
