MATT Corker said London Welsh had shown their potential after defeating Exeter.

The second row, who has played more than 150 games for the Exiles, said: “I think we proved to a lot of people what we are capable of.

“But there are a lot of things that we need to improve on if we want to stay in this league.

“Every team gets better week by week and that is something we have to do too.”

He added: “It is fantastic for us. It couldn’t come at a better time.

“We knew our first two games were always going to be a challenge and there was going to be a certain period of adjustment.

“We are definitely moving in the right direction, although we could have made it a bit easier for ourselves if we had cut out a few of the errors.”

As for going 14-0 down before winning 25-24 late on, Corler joked: “We like to play an entertaining brand of rugby!”

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter said: “I think we got 14 points, which we didn’t really work massively hard for and it almost created the rest of our problems.

“We went off our game plan. We started throwing passes to isolated runners. We felt we should turn them over at every breakdown and became penalty ridden. We just lost our way.

“Over 80 minutes I am not going to say that we deserved to win the game.”

He added: “I think today should be a bit more about congratulating London Welsh than it is worrying about where we went wrong.

“We got a lot of things wrong, but credit to London Welsh, they got a lot of things right.”
