ATHLETICS: Henderson sparks Radley to victory

Radley emerged victorious from the Southern Women’s League Premier Division match they hosted on Saturday.

Their A team won by 13 points from second-placed Guildford.

Radley managed 17 first places throughout the day, which edged them ahead of their Surrey rivals. Wycombe finished third, and Colchester fourth.

There was a personal best for Sophie Henderson in the 80m hurdles (17.8secs) and in the junior section for Kim Sutherland, with her 26.7secs in the A string 200m.

In the seniors, veteran Sally Sutherland knocked a massive 13.3secs off her time for the 1500m, while Natasha Mighty enjoyed a good day by winning the A string shot putt with 10.51m, and then winning all three B string events in which she competed – discus, javelin and hammer.

Also in winning ways were Kay Reynolds, with 14.7 in the A string 100m hurdles, and Emily Dobson with 9.28m in the triple jump.

It was a double home fixture for Radley, who also hosted the Southern Women’s League Division 1 match.

Their B team found it hard going, finishing third.

Among the juniors, Olivia Dobson recorded a double pb in the long jump (3.80m) and shot (5.82m), and other bestscame from Shekeenah Chobbrah in the 200m (29.7), and Tara Sutherland in the 800m (3.13.4).

In the seniors, veteran Rose Webb rolled back the years by competing in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m, which she won in the B string.
