Hammer thrower Emma O’Hara bagged a silver medal in the England Under 20 Championships at Bedford.

The 18-year-old Radley athlete finished second in the under 20 ladies’ event, throwing 54.07m in blustery conditions.

O’Hara, who is second in the UK under 20 rankings, could not quite match her personal best of 55.60 set at the Oxfordshire Championships, with Louisa James (Shaftesbury) winning in 55.80.

Former Radley athlete Rhys Glastonbury, from Long Hanborough, finished fourth in the under 23 men’s 1,500m.

The 22-year-old Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow athlete missed out on a medal by 0.35secs as he ran a personal best 3.46.77.

Elsewhere, Radley’s Rosie Kingston clocked a 100m hurdles best of 14.80 in the under 23 heats.

Clubmate Stuart Ferguson was seventh in his under 23 men’s 1,500m heat, with his time of 4.04.17 way off his season’s best.

Abingdon duo Noel Blatchford and Roz McKenzie finished first and second in the Oxfordshire ladies’ 3,000m walk championship at Iffley Road, Oxford.

Blatchford took gold in 18mins 17.2secs, with McKenzie (18.20.2) hot on her heels.

The event was held as part of the Town v Gown meeting, which also saw Abingdon’s Cordelia Parker claim the Oxon ladies’ 5,000m title in 20.00.3.

Josie Harrison (White Horse Harriers) won the under 17 girls’ title in 20.07.7.

Abingdon’s Dan Hamilton was second in the men’s 5,000m, clocking a personal best 15.32.9, with Jonny Cornish (White Horse Harriers) third in 16.54.6.

Radley had to be content with second place in their Sweatshop Southern League Division 1 third-round meeting at Bromley.

Having been defeated by hosts Blackheath & Bromley, Radley are now second in the table, one point behind Southampton.

David Gain won the men’s 100m and 200m in 10.85secs and 21.57.

Ben Owen clocked 49.84 for victory in his debut 400m race, while decathlete Osman Muskwe won the high jump (1.85m), long jump (6.83) and shot put (14.20) Radley’s Kathryn Woodcock won the ladies’ discus in 38.51.

Three Abingdon AC teams completed the 24th Ridgeway Relay on Sunday.

Abingdon’s mixed team completed the ten-leg 86.5-mile course in 11hrs 52mins 53secs for 22nd place overall.

Their ladies’ side were 30th in 12.243.40 and their veterans 34th in 13.00.30.

Abingdon Amblers are no more after the club officially changed their name.

Now known simply as Abingdon Athletics Club, officials hope the revised name better reflects the range of events members compete in.
