Hammer thrower Emma O’Hara and 800m runner Christian von Eitzen won gold at the English Schools’ Track & Field Championships at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium.

O’Hara, 18, from Larkmead School, Abingdon, took the senior girls’ hammer, throwing an impressive distance of 55.40m.

She was third in last year’s event with a distance of 50.83m, and took the intermediate category in 2011 with a throw of 47.62m.

Von Eitzen’s won the intermediate boys’ 800m.

The 16-year-old from the European School, Culham, triumphed with a personal best of 1min 53.37secs after times of 1.58.91 and 1.55.37 in the heats and semi-finals.

Kathryn Woodcock, from Our Lady’s Abingdon, won the silver medal in the intermediate girls’ discus.

Her throw of 39.58m was just four centimetres short of the winning distance of 39.62m.

Robby Crowther, of John Mason School, Abingdon, finished sixth in the junior boys’ javelin with a throw of 47.53m.

Archie Wilson, of Radley College, reached the intermediate 100m semi-finals.

He recorded a time of 11.16 secs in his heat, but finished last in his semi.

Jordan Dorrian, from King Alfred’s Academy, Wantage, was unable to make it past the first round in the senior 200m, finishing fourth in his heat with 22.70secs.

And Ellie Smith, of Fitzharrys School, Abingdon, was 17th in the junior discus with a distance of 22.99.
