Former Radley runner Carolyn Plateau, was disappointed not to make the final of the 800 metres in the Sainsburys British Championships at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham on Friday.

Plateau finish fourth behind winner Marilyn Okoro in her heat in 2mins 6.47 secs – just outside her seasonal best time.

Afterwards, she said: “I tried to go to the front which isn’t her natural race.

“But when you are chasing fastest loser spots it is your only option. “It was great to come here and enjoy the atmosphere and run against the best girls in the country.”

Ashley Johnson (Radley) was fifth in his heat of the 110 metres hurdles in 12.73. “The race went well,” he said.

“I am just delighted to be here competing in the national championships.”

Daid Gain (Radley), who won bronze in the 2013 indoor championships was in a good position in his heat of the 200 metres when he pulled his hamstring and came in last. “I have been struggling with the hamstring all year,” he said.

“I was feeling good as I came off the bend then the hamstring went.”
