SARAH Lackman led the way for Abingdon, finishing in the top 20 at Sunday’s annual Berks, Bucks & Oxfordshire Cross Country Championships in Horspath.
Despite a very cold chilly wind, the athletes faced a dry course bathed in sunshine and Lackman was Abingdon’s first senior woman to cross the line in 18th in a time of 25mins 43secs.
In the men’s race, clubmate Paul Fernandez continued his hectic schedule by finishing 11th in 34.00.
Abingdon had 62 girls taking part in the under 13 event, with Beth Darwent excelling to come home sixth.
Teammates Mette Rutter, Mieke Bedlington and Izzie Jones were 18th, 20th and 27th respectively.
They helped the club secure fifth place in the team event, five points short of a medal.
In the under 17 girls, Chloe Ridewood returned after an injury-hit summer to finish tenth in 26.30.
Vicky Tilling was 14th and Lottie Siddle 17th as Abingdon secured fourth in the team competition.
Kie Francis (15th), Alexander Pennington (14th) and Jack Shaylor (16th) led the way for the club in the under 13, 15 and 17 boys races.
White Horse Harrier Paul Jegou finished as the first Veteran 40 in the Wessex League meeting at Aldon Park in Yeovil.
Meanwhile, Richard Jegou competed in the Swindon Winter Throws competition and set a club record of 31.80m in the discus.
