Former White Horse Harrier junior Jessica Harrison took the bronze medal in a sprint finish in round two of the International Triathlon Union’s World Championship series held in Madrid to move into second place in the world rankings.
Harrison (pictured), competing for her adopted country France, finished only a second behind the leading pair of Andrea Hewitt, from New Zealand, and Sweden’s Lisa Norden, both of whom recorded 2hrs 5mins 58secs.
Harrison was among the leading finishers the swim.
She stayed in the leading pack during the bike section, entering the run in the lead pack of 13.
Norden and Hewitt took up the lead, but repeated surges from Harrison and others took five runners clear of the field.
In the overall World Championship rankings, Harrison, for whom this was a first podium finish, is just 19 points behind leader Switzerland’s Magali Di Marco Messmer.
