ATHLETICS: Potter and Dorrian shine for Radley


Radley secured their position in Southern 1 West of the National Young Athletes League as they finished second to Milton Keynes at Kingston-upon-Thames on Sunday.

There were outstanding performances in all age groups, but it was Andrew Potter and Jordan Dorrian who stole the show with magnificent trebles.

Potter achieved victories in the under 17 boys’ 100m, 200m and 400m, and he was well-supported by George Miller, who won the 800m and 1500m, while Ed O’Hara was triumphant in the 100m hurdles.

Under 15 Dorrian also achieved a hat-trick of victories, winning the 100m, 200m and long jump.

James Purnell-Lacey won the 400m and 800m on his debut, and narrowly failed to pull back a 60 metre deficit on the final leg of the 4x400m relay.

In the under 13 boys’ section, Christian von Eitzen and Charlie Miller both achieved personal bests in the 800m, von Eitzen’s time of 2.15.7 being the third best in the country this season for his age group.

In the girls’ section, the under 17s almost matched the boys in victories.

Sarah Dutton and Louise Brown won the A and B string high jump, while Susan Keet achieved a personal best of 5.29m in the long jump.

Brown also won the 80m hurdles in 12.6 secs.

The under 15 girls were led by Natalie Walsh, who won the B string shot in 6.63m.

Result: 1 Milton Keynes 449, 2 Radley 361.5, 3 St Mary’s Richmond 311.5, 4 Kingston 227.

l Tom and Lucy Garrod, of Abingdon Amblers, ran the Sialens y Barcud Coch in mid-Wales on Saturday.

Tom completed the 11-mile course in 1hr 38mins 23secs for third place in the vet 40 category, while Lucy won the vet 40 ladies’ race in 1.59.58.

l Abingdon Amblers A finished fourth in the Ridgeway Relay from Ivinghoe Beacon to Marlborough, completing the 87-mile course in 9hrs 58mins 13secs.

The vet 50 team were first in their division, clocking 12.15.43, while the B team recorded 13.14.20.
