White Horse Harrier Paul Jegou secured his second race win in seven days in the Compton Challenge 20-mile multi-terrain race despite, going an extra mile.

The Challenge lived up to its name, with the going hea-vy underfoot and extremely slippery.

Jegou established an early lead, but a wrong turning resulted in his running an extra mile and finding himself back in tenth place, more than five minutes behind the leaders.

This occurred before half-way, giving time for Jegou to set about reeling in the runners ahead of him.

With four-and-a-half miles to go, the gap was down to just over two minutes with only two runners ahead of him A determined effort in the final stages brought its reward with Jegou winning almost a minute ahead.

The previous weekend Jegou won the senior men's race in the final round of this season's Wessex League at Avon Heath.

By doing so Paul also secured the men's overall title for a second year.

Clubmate John Peake sec-ured the Vet 40 title after finishing seventh.
