AN astonishing innings from Rob Owen proved all in vain for Faringdon as they crashed to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Shrivenham in Saturday’s Airey Cup first round.

Owen slammed a remarkable 150 not out in a total of 192 all out for Faringdon – with only one teammate achieving double figures.

Faringdon were all out in the 38th over, as Owen’s one-man show stunned the Shrivenham attack.

But the visitors took only 29 overs to reach 193-2 to book their place in round two as Adam Tucker (73no), Conor Taylor (67no) and Chahal (30) flayed the Faringdon attack.

There was another huge ton at Wantage, where David Spencer’s 163 also counted for nothing as the hosts lost to Cairns Fudge by 19 runs.

YOUNGSTER Dominic Whinfrey produced a starring performance for Sunningwell 2nd, but could not inspire his side to victory at home to Hanney 2nd in the OCA League’s Osberton Radiators Cup.

The 15-year-old returned magnificent best-ever figures of 7-23 as he ran through the Hanney card, the visitors being shot out for 138.

And Whinfrey wasn’t finished yet, as he rattled up a maiden OCA League half-century in Sunningwell’s reply.

But his 54 was in vain, with no-one able to stay with him.

They were bowled out for 101, with David Buckle taking 6-19 for Hanney.
