ABINGDON Vale closed in on Cherwell League Division 2 leaders Challow & Childrey with a comfortable 94-run win at Great & Little Tew 2nd.

With the league leaders’ clash against Wolverton Town being washed out, Vale were able to capitalise thanks to their fourth straight win.

Sam Chilvers top-scored with 37 as the visitors posted 186-8 in 51 overs, while Matthew Warner took 5-46 for Tew.

The home side were no match for spinners Paul White (4-23) and Jonathan Jenkinson (3-28) as they crashed to 92 all out.

Blewbury & Wallingford went down by two wickets at Bledlow Village, who went top of Division 3.

Mark Carey hit 52 as Blewbury were bowled out for 178, Harry Bartlett taking 4-42.

Bartlett then hit a spectacular 131 not out from 112 balls to lead Bledlow to 184-8, Scott Harris taking 4-46.

Didcot had to settle for draw at home to Great Brickhill 2nd, whose stubborn resistance denied the hosts maximum points.

Ian Demain (85) and Simon Pritchard (67) helped Didcot to a formidable 290-8 in their 53 overs.

Brickhill crawled to 145-7 in their 47 overs.

Abingdon Vale 2nd moved up to second in Division 5 after a 65-run victory against Didcot 2nd at Hales Meadow.

Vale posted 150-9 in their 53 overs in bowler-friendly conditions, Paul Butcher top-scoring with 49 and Tom Allen hitting 32.

Danny Hartley then claimed 5-31 as Didcot succumbed to 85 all out. Kingston Bagpuize fell to a 12-run defeat at Bledlow Ridge.

Brothers Will Woodley (4-41) and George Woodley (3-24) bowled well for Kingston to help dismiss the home side for 205.

James Boon then hit 70 and George Woodley 41 in Kingston’s reply, but they were bowled out for 193, Mohsin Sabri taking 4-26.

In Division 8, Abingdon Vale 3rd were crushed by league leaders Westbury 2nd as they went down by 130 runs.

Tom Boardman slammed 130 as hosts Westbury racked up 252-4 declared in just 35.1 overs. Vale were bowled out for just 122.

Challow & Childrey 3rd saw off hosts Abingdon Vale 4th by eight wickets in Division 9 South.

Alex Frost’s 6-22 helped to skittle Vale for 87, before Freddie Robson hit 53 not out to lead Challow to 88-2.
