ABINGDON Vale won a thriller at Banbury 2nd by one wicket in Division 1 of the Cherwell League.

Vale inserted their hosts, who managed only 190-8 in their 50 overs.

Justin Lambden top-scored for the home side with 52, while Tom Bartlett hit 46.

Vale lost regular wickets, but Tim Chilvers (48) and Amith Premkumar (40) helped them close in on their total.

But it needed a final-wicket stand of 15 between David Murphy and last man Paul White, who hit 12 off 12 balls, to steer their side to 194-9 in the 48th over for the narrowest of victories.

Vishane Perera’s second century of the season helped Didcot to a 54-run victory at home to Oxford 2nd in Division 2.

Winning the toss, Oxford opted to field first.

Opening pair Perera and Simon Pritchard shared 38, before the latter was dismissed.

Elliot Mathews was then removed for three, but an 84-run stand between Perera and Dan Swindells helped Didcot to 131-3.

Perera and Richard Cook then took the score to 230-4 as captain Cook hit 51 in 67 balls, while Perera reached a superb century.

The former Oxford player finished on 117 from 137 balls, his innings containing 16 fours.

His century saw Didcot to a formidable total of 306-6, though their score was aided by a remarkable 60 extras, including 26 wides and six penalty runs for a slow over rate.

Oxford got their chase off to an excellent start as Harold Porter and Arthur Muir shared 60 for the first wicket.

The visitors were always in the hunt as Ian Crosby hit 50 from 60 balls and Matthew Reilly a quickfire 60 from 39 deliveries.

But they were bowled out for 252 in the 45th over as Ian Demain took 4-59 and Cook 3-70.

Challow & Childrey were shot out for just 69 as they crashed to a seven-wicket defeat at Leighton Buzzard Town.

James Aldridge (5-33) was chief destroyer with Challow’s top-score coming courtesy of extras with 19.

Buzzard reached 70-3 in the 15th over to seal victory.

Abingdon Vale 2nd’s unbeaten run in Division 5 ended in a 112-run defeat to Cumnor 2nd.

Cumnor batted first and declared on 233-7 in the 52nd over, Luke Finch hitting 86 and Shravan Chinta 45.

Vale were in all sorts of trouble after a dire collapse saw them staring down the barrel at 48-7.

Their lower order battled hard in an attempt to draw, Matt Butcher top-scoring with 33, but they were bowled out in the final over of their reply.

Kingston Bagpuize saw off hosts Oxford 3rd by 100 runs.

Kendal Robertson struck 57 in Kingston’s 226-9.

Oxford then slumped to 126 all out as Matt Watts claimed 4-24.

Didcot 2nd slipped to a two-wicket loss at Long Marston 2nd.

Batting first, Didcot fell to 152 all out as Sam Woodruff took 6-49.

Marston struggled in their reply, but edged home at 153-8.

Andrew Ward took 4-9 as Didcot 3rd beat Cumnor 3rd by eight wickets in Division 8.
