Match of the Day

LOCAL rivals Witney Mills and Kingston Bagpuize served up a high-scoring Division 3 contest.

But both sides lacked the quality to finish off their opponents as the match ended in a draw.

Bagpuize will be the more disappointed of the two sides, as they put themselves in an almost unassailable position after posting 242-7 on Mills’ low-scoring ground.

Oliver Young led the way with 64, while Dave Ward offered valuable support with his highest score (43) since his move from Abingdon Vale earlier in the season.

Kingston’s improvement this season has been built around the performances of a trio of young bowlers, Damian Wiskin, Matt Warner and Ben Jefferis.

It was Jefferis who had the most success against Witney, taking 4-94 to keep his side’s victory hopes alive.

But Will Sterio hit 76 and Craig Evans 43 as Mills averted defeat to stay in touch with the sides immediately above them in mid-table, despite slipping into the relegation zone.
