OxVox chairman's horror at Welsh's ground 'bid'

The chairman of Oxford United's official fans' group has reacted with horror following speculation that London Welsh were in talks to buy the Kassam Stadium.

It was reported on Radio Oxford that John Taylor, former managing director of London Welsh, had been quoted as saying that the club were in negotiations to look at the possibility of buying the ground, where the U’s and Welsh play their home games.

Welsh subsequently issued a statement saying that they are not in talks with stadium owner Firoz Kassam United fans were quick to make it clear where they stood on the issue.

When asked whether he would welcome a Welsh buy-out, Mark Sennett, chairman of supporters’ group OxVox, said: “Absolutely not. It is news that would horrify Oxford United fans.

“London Welsh have made no approach,” said Kassam.

Wait, so the author of this piece reports that someone else reported that someone had been quoted? This is either really bad writing or a halfhearted attempt to name a source without having one.

(Apologies, don't know how the quote got in there above!)

Hopefully. I hate the kassam stadium, always have... There's enough room at court place farm to build a nice big stadium with some character...

Scenarios:
1. John Taylor is wrong.
2. John Taylor is making it up.
3. Radio Oxford is making it up.
4. Oxford Mail is making it up.
5. There is some truth in it.

I go for number 5. Though I don't think they could afford it, and the discussions wouldn't get very far anyway.

A joint venture between Utd and Welsh I think is a lot more plausible - Ian Lenagan spoke of this possibility when it was announced that Welsh would play at the ground.

My vote for new stadium name: The Blackbird Stadium.
