Model railway enthusiasts from all over Britain will converge on the Christie Miller Centre in Melksham this weekend for the annual Trainwest Model Railway Exhibition.

The event, the largest in Wiltshire and one of the major shows in the West, will be open from 10am to 5.30pm on Saturday and from 10am to 4.30pm on Sunday. Last year's show attracted 2,500 visitors.

Trainwest always features some of the best model railway layouts in the country and this year there will be 22 working model railways on display from as far afield as Penzance, Essex, Sunderland and Cumbria, including Sweethome Alabama by Jon Grant and Chris Nevard's Horseley Fields.

Most of the layouts have not previously been exhibited in Wiltshire.

This is the seventh year in which the exhibition has been held in Melksham, having moved from Chippenham when some of the facilities at the Olympiad were closed.

Tickets are £8 adults and £5 children, but Wiltshire residents can save £2 per person with advance tickets from the Christie Miller Centre, Melksham Tourist Information Centre and Gas Cupboard Models in Trowbridge.

A free bus will be running from Chippenham railway station on Saturday and further details can be found at www.trainwest.org.uk.
