Tenbury Colts 1 Sinkums Colts 4

FOUNDER James Turrell hailed midfielder Ben Jordan for an outstanding display in Tenbury Colts’ defeat against Sinkums.

Jordan normally plays at full-back or on the wing and Turrell called his performance a ‘revelation’ in Saturday’s Herefordshire League Division Three clash.

“There were some excellent performances from stand-in right-back Owen Edwards and goalkeeper Luke Gill,” said Turrell.

“Adam Grosvenor is usually in goal and he was a very strong contender for the manof- the-match award.”

Colts’ new club captain James Stone bagged the hosts’ consolation goal from the penalty spot - but they were already trailing 4-0.

A three-goal burst from Hereford-based Sinkums in a 12-minute spell leading up to half-time put paid to Colts’ victory hopes.

Turrell says the Colts are enjoying their maiden season in the Herefordshire League.

“We are continuing to show improvement with our young side,” he said.

“We were perhaps a little unfortunate not to score a few more with Phil Maiden firing wide and high on a couple good opportunities.

“There has been a significant improvement in our young side and we have provided Tenbury United with players in the last two years. We are taking on players from Tenbury United Youth and other youth teams and working with them to create players capable of playing at a higher level.”

Colts are eighth out of nine teams in Division Three with three wins from 13 matches.

Turrell said: “Next season our priorities are starting to switch to building a side capable of moving up the league.

“We intend to do this by using predominantly young players.

“We now have a core group of players committed to the club and keen to drive it forward.”
