DANNY Rose has praised the professional attitude of young right back Matt Bevans.

Bevans, 20, only made his Sky Bet League Two debut six games ago when he came on as substitute in Oxford United’s goalless draw against Exeter City on January 28.

And the U’s midfielder says Bevans has taken to the role like a duck to water.

“Matt was thrown in at the deep end because of the injuries, but he’s definitely deserved his chance because he’s trained really well,” said Rose.

“He’s not moaned about not being in the team because Hunty (David Hunt) has done so well and kept him out of the side.

“He’s bided his time, been thrown in and has done really well.

“Sometimes it’s the best way because you don’t get too much time to think about it.

“He’s not big-headed at all. He’s got good composure on the ball and he’s come through at Watford where they pass and play.

“So he’s got that element and he’s a tough boy as well, so he’s difficult to beat one-on-one.

“He’s showed that in the games he’s played so far. I can’t remember too many times when the left winger has got past him and got crosses in the box.”

Rose said opposition sides may have seen Bevans’ inexperience as a weak point, but not anymore.

“Other teams won’t think that now. He’s come up against some experienced wingers,” he said.

“The one at Bristol Rovers sticks in my mind. I know Kaid Mohamed quite well, he’s experienced at this level and he (Bevans) got him subbed off.

“He kept him quiet all game and that epitomises how well he has done.”
