JON Meades will only make his Oxford United debut if he can make a contribution in the final two games.

The midfielder has been out since last July following a serious ankle injury, but has played several development games in the past month.

Meades is yet to be named in a matchday squad, but head coach Gary Waddock dismissed any suggestion the Welshman would be handed an appearance before the end of the season as a goodwill gesture.

He said: “I want to win games, so it won’t be about that at all.

“If I think he deserves to go into it, he will go in.

“We’ll have to see whether he comes into it during these remaining fixtures, but for him it will be about getting a pre-season under his belt and being fit for the new campaign.”
