Junior Brown is aiming to excite the fans at Oxford United this season after admitting the chance to join was too good to turn down.

The 25-year-old signed a 12-month deal on Thursday and is in line to make his debut against Bournemouth in the final first-team friendly of pre-season today.

Brown scored what proved to be the winner on his previous visit to the Kassam Stadium, for Fleetwood Town in February 2013.

And after agreeing to terminate his deal at Highbury to make the move south, the pacy wide man is looking to entertain at United.

He said: “It’s a great opportunity and one I didn’t feel I could pass up.

“I’m excited to be part of a new challenge in a club that’s striving to progress through the leagues and a club that’s got the infrastructure and a great set of fans.

“It’s an opportunity I’m looking forward to and hopefully I can provide some excitement for the fans.

“I’m raring to go and hopefully I can do well and it’s a nice little debut.”

The clash with Eddie Howe’s side, who finished tenth in the Championship last season, will be the last chance for the senior players to impress before the League Two campaign begins next weekend.

But head coach Michael Appleton will warn his players not to make assumptions based on today’s selection.

He said: “I will be saying to people don’t read too much into the team on Saturday because if you try and read me I can assure you I’ve got my poker glasses on.”

Bournemouth hosted Swansea City last night, so will split their squad between the games.

Despite the opposition being below full strength, Appleton believes it will be a good test.

He said: “Last season they finished just outside the play-offs and did it in a manner that a lot of people are taking notice of.

“They’re easy on the eye and play some fantastic football.

“It’s difficult to play against, if you give the ball away against Bournemouth on Saturday, you’re not getting it back for probably 60 or 90 seconds.”

United are without centre backs Jake Wright (ankle) and Johnny Mullins (dead leg) after picking up knocks in the 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday night, although both are expected to be available for next weekend.

Alfie Potter has recovered from a calf strain and is likely to start.
