ALFIE Potter says Tareiq Holmes-Dennis has everything he needs to have a career as a top-class player.

The full back had not played a single minute of competitive senior football before joining Oxford United on loan from Charlton Athletic.

But Potter, who has played in front of him on the left flank in recent games, said: “I think he’s a great player and for 19 years old and his first taste of senior football I think he's done unbelievably well.

“I wouldn’t be surprised in the next few years to see him kick on and play a lot higher.

  • Latest United news:

“He doesn’t have a bad day in training.

“He’s got everything and just needs to not get ahead of himself, which I’m sure he won’t.”

Like Holmes-Dennis, Potter made his mark as a young player, so knows how difficult it can be.

He said: “The consistency he’s shown is the main one because as a young player you’re always labelled as inconsistent, but he hasn’t put a foot wrong.”
