Danny Hylton is expecting a lukewarm reception today as one of several players lining up to face their former clubs when Oxford United visit AFC Wimbledon.

The forward returns to Kingsmeadow for the first time since spending the second half of last season on loan with the Dons.

Hylton scored just three goals from 17 appearances during the spell and was typically frank when asked what sort of welcome he would receive from the home fans at the Sky Bet League Two clash.

“Probably not much of one,” he said. “When I went there I didn’t have the best time and I wasn’t there for long.

“It’s nice to go back to your old club and get one over on them, isn’t it?

“Every game you go into wanting to win, but maybe there will be a bit of added spice because I was there before.”

Michael Collins and Jon Meades are also ex-Wimbledon players, while Neal Ardley’s men have several with United connections.

It will be the first time Alfie Potter and Sean Rigg have faced their former employers, along with Dannie Bulman.

Potter is the only one Hylton has shared a changing room with and the U’s top scorer is well aware of the winger’s danger.

He said: “He’s a good player and on his day he’s unstoppable. Let’s hope he’s not having one of his days.”

Hylton and Patrick Hoban both dropped to the bench for Easter Monday’s goalless draw with York City, but could return.

Michael Appleton, United’s head coach, has hinted he will use the remaining games to try out fringe players, so other changes are in the pipeline for a squad with no new injury concerns.

The visitors head into the game three games unbeaten, while the home side are coming off the back of a 4-0 thumping at Dagenham & Redbridge.

They switched to a back three for the first time due to both left backs Callum Kennedy (thigh) and Jack Smith (groin) being ruled out.

Both returned to training this week, along with No 1 goalkeeper James Shea (ankle), to ease the problems.

Appleton added: “I’d be very surprised if we play the Wimbledon side that played on Monday.”
