DIDCOT Town suffered a blow a fortnight before the start of the new Evo-Stik Southern League campaign with the news that striker Mark Janes has joined Banbury United.
Janes, the Railwaymen’s leading scorer last season with 15 goals, signed last week for Mike Ford’s Premier Division outfit.
Janes then scored twice in Banbury’s 4-2 friendly with at home to Hednesford Town.
Meanwhile, Didcot, who open their Division 1 South & West season at home to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday, August 6, suffered their third straight friendly defeat on Saturday when losing 4-0 at home to Vanarama National League 2 newcomers Hungerford Town.
Their next friendly is away to Rushden & Diamonds this Saturday.
There was no joy last Saturday for Wantage Town, who went down 1-0 away to Brackley Town Saints.
