BERINSFIELD suffered their first defeat of the season in North Berks League Division 1 as they went down 2-0 at Saxton Rovers, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

The home side left it late against the league leaders, who had been forced to play 70 minutes with only ten men after captain Chris Murphy had been sent off.

Saxton’s numerical advantage was finally made to count ten minutes from time when Tom Stanley prodded home a corner at the back post, with Louis Bloomfield adding a second on the break late in the game.

Second-placed Wallingford Town took advantage of Berinsfield’s slip-up in emphatic fashion with an 8-1 demolition of Lambourn Sports.

Charlie Silkstone hit a hat-trick, Louis Chainey and Joe Webber grabbed a brace each and Stuart Walker also scored for the hosts, with Eddie Annetts scoring Lambourn’s consolation.

Liam Revell, Liam Eltham and William McDonald were all on target as East Hendred won 3-0 at Long Wittenham Athletic.

Stanford in the Vale were held to an entertaining 3-3 draw at home to Burghclere.

Taylor Gill, Bradley Gill and Danny Lewis netted for the hosts, but a Ben Wickens double and another from Adam Shepperd ensured the points were shared.

Mason Churton’s impressive hat-trick gave Sutton Courtenay a 3-2 home victory over Faringdon Town Res in Division 2.

Jamie Broadfield struck twice in reply for the visitors, but it wasn’t enough.

In the second round of the North Berks Cup, Hanney United claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win away to Grove Rangers thanks to a goal from Andrew Hope.

Division 4 side Blewbury claimed an impressive scalp as they upset Division 2 visitors Steventon 4-2 in the third round of the War Memorial Cup.

Ryan Tappin scored twice for the hosts alongside efforts from Bryn Ingram and Arran Gray, with Jon Green and Dave Johns replying for the visitors.

Goals from Jordan Jones, Matt Turl and Jack Walsy gave Benson Lions a 3-1 win at Dorchester, with Cameron Paterson on target for the hosts.

Harwell Village stormed into the semi-finals with an impressive 5-1 thrashing of North Oxford.

John Chapman netted for the away side, but they were well beaten thanks to goals from Jake Chaffey, Gareth Fenton, Wayne Robins, Tom Fisher and Paul Powell.
