HARRY Ackland’s first-half strike secured Westminster the North Berks League War Memorial Cup with a 1-0 victory over fellow Division 2 side Harwell Village at Alfredian Park.

Westminster broke the deadlock when a long ball over the top of the Harwell defence found Ackland on the left, the youngster taking a touch and firing in from an acute angle.

Ackland almost doubled the lead when Harwell keeper Lee Newport tipped his effort around a post.

Westminster’s Simon Joyce was sent off for a second yellow card.

Division 4 side Burghclere Res lifted the North Berks League Cup with a 2-0 win over Division 5 side Coleshill United Res at Hungerford.

Burghclere keeper Kevin Butler saved a penalty, and his side made Coleshill pay, as they scored through Joseph Stockwell and Joe Lawrence to secure the cup.

Berinsfield remained top of Division 1 with a thumping 7-1 win at Lambourn Sports.

Max Palmer led the way with a hat-trick, with Luke Holdsworth, Mark Ingram, Charlie Lee and Luke Saunders also on target.

Lambourn replied through a Damian Harris penalty.

Saxton Rovers defeated Long Wittenham 4-0 thanks to goals from Jonny James, Tom Stanley, Harry Winn and Michael Smith.

Kintbury Rangers dew 1-1 at Burghclere, Shaun Thorp netting for Rangers and Josh Stockwell replying.

In Division 2, Dorchester beat North Oxford 4-0.

Miles Southon bagged a brace, with Jack Rowe and George Kay also on target.

Grove Rangers Res completed a 100 per cent season with a 4-1 win at Didcot Eagles.

Eammon McGowran hit a hat-trick and Jamie Dutton No 4, with Matt Hill putting through his own net for Grove’s reply.

Steventon Res thrashed Hanney 66 6-0, thanks to goals from Danny Curran (3), Kevin Scott, Nathan Page and Steve Bell.
