JIMMY Floyd Hasselbaink wants to guard against over-confidence when Northampton Town visit Oxford United tomorrow.
The Cobblers are still in the Sky Bet League One relegation zone, but have shown signs of improvement since the former Chelsea and Leeds United striker joined in September.
They are on a five-game unbeaten run in all comp-etitions, including wins against Gillingham and Blackpool in their last two league games.
“Confidence is building which is good but to be over-confident is a dangerous thing,” he told the club’s website.
“The win at Gillingham will help the belief of the players but Saturday is a new match and we have to be ready for whatever comes at us.
“We need to keep doing the good things that we have been doing as well as learning from the mistakes.”
Northampton beat Southampton Under 21s on a penalty shoot-out in the Checkatrade Trophy on Tuesday.
But Hasselbaink was frustrated with his much-changed side, who trailed 3-0 before drawing level late on.
He said: “In the end it was a positive result even though we weren’t happy with the performance.
“We want to keep on making steps forward and even with the changes I expected us to do much better.”
