OXFORD United’s run in the FA Youth Cup was brought to an end as they lost 3-0 to Dagenham & Redbridge at Court Place Farm.

Luke Hirst’s striker separated the sides at the break, before Dylan Florence’s brace in the second half made the game safe.

His second came from a penalty, which saw Aaron McCreadie shown a straight red card.

United’s neat football created half-chances early on.

Ben Chilcott’s surge forward and through ball threatened to send through Slavi Spasov, but Louie Chapman raced out of his goal to clear.

The Dagenham goalkeeper was beaten midway through the half when Owen James pounced on a loose backpass, but the U’s striker was crowded out by defenders.

The visitors, who had beaten Clanfield 7-1 in the previous round, opened the scoring on the half-hour mark.

There was a hint of handball in the build-up, but Hirst found a pocked of space in the penalty area and his shot went in off the far post.

While United had trailed in the previous two rounds, their task grew much tougher two minutes after the break.

Florence’s shot from the edge of the box took a deflection and looped over stranded goalkeeper Max Evans into the net.

The hosts went on to have their best spell of the game as they searched for a way back.

Substitute Ryan Crooks came closest, but although his shot beat Chapman, it was cleared off the line.

And 15 minutes from time the tie was killed off when Florence was brought down in the box.

McCreadie was dismissed for the challenge and the Daggers midfielder converted from 12 yards for his second goal of the night.

It ensured the Londoners will visit Ipswich Town in the fourth round.
