SAXTON Rovers came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over Marlow United in the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy final at Bracknell Town.

On an historic day, Rovers became the first North Berks League club to win the competition.

Marlow started strongly and were in front inside four minutes as Liam Bushy turned the ball past Saxton keeper Jack Absolom.

Absolom then beat away an Alan McKie strike, before Rovers started to come into the game.

They came close to drawing level through Niall Hodgkins, who headed just wide from six yards.

However, moments later they equalised, when a long cross-field ball fell to Frankie Haines, who unleashed an unstoppable shot past Marlow keeper Callum Akerman.

In the second half, Saxton went in front when a corner was swung into a crowded box and the unmarked Tom Stanley bundled the ball over the line, to the jubilation of the 200 travelling Saxton supporters.

With just ten minutes left, Saxton secured the trophy by stretching their lead.

Louis Bloomfield’s corner was poorly punched by Akerman, and the ball fell to Hodgkins, who fired in from ten yards out.

That sealed seal Saxton’s famous victory.
