SAXTON Rovers’ remarkable season continued as they clinched the North Berks League Charity Shield with a 2-0 win over Westminster, writes RICHARD UNDERWOOD.

Having already lifted the Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy, Rovers added the Charity Shield in front of around 200 spectators at Abingdon United’s Northcourt Road.

In a game of few chances, Saxton went in front midway through the second half when Louis Bloomfield curled a free-kick into the net.

Saxton did not need to wait long to double their lead when Bloomfield fired in another free-kick, this time finding leading scorer Tom Stanley to tap in from six yards to secure victory.

In Division 1, East Hendred missed the chance to go back to the top of the table as they lost 1-0 at Hanney United.

Nicholas Christodoulou scored the only goal of the game.

Berinsfield kept their slim title hopes alive with a 4-2 win over Long Wittenham.

Max Palmer scored all four for Berinsfield, while Aaron Colley and Ryan Scott replied.

North Oxford picked up only their second win of the season, seeing off hosts Steventon 3-0, thanks to John Malin (2) and Ben Scrivener.

Ardington went five points clear in Division 2 with a 1-0 win at Watlington Town, Nick Wilkins scoring the only goal.

Drayton kept their Division 3 promotion hopes on track with a 5-1 away win over Letcombe Res.

Nathan Merry led the way with a hat-trick, with Ben O’Hara and Josh Dennis scoring the others.

Letcombe replied through Angelo Fragata.

Division 4 champions Cumnor Minors Under 21 signed off their home campaign with a 6-4 victory over Hagbourne United Res.

Jordan Howe and Ben Branton hit braces, with Levi Webb and James Large also on target.

Hagbourne replied through Ben Drabble, Jake Lee, George Smith and Kieran Beesley.

Hanney 66 Club clinched promotion, securing the runners-up spot with a 2-1 win over Steventon Res.

John Green and Dylan Myerscough-Harris scored for Hanney, with Stuart Coppock scoring for Steventon.
