FOOTBALL: Haysham double can't save Didcot
7:53pm Wednesday 23rd October 2013 in Local Football
A burst of three second-half goals in ten minutes at Wimborne Town condemned Didcot Town to a heavy 5-2 defeat in Calor League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.
With Gary Elkins standing in as temporary manager following the resignation of Andy Wallbridge, the visitors made a promising start.
Pablo Haysham put Didcot ahead following a well-worked move on 11 minutes.
Wimborne hit back swiftly.
But there was a touch of good fortune about it when John Blake’s 20th-minute effort deflected off Didcot skipper Luke Carnell and past keeper Kieron Beesley. Haysham put the Railwaymen ahead again in the 24th minute after a defensive blunder by Wimborne gifted him a chance which he dispatched in style.
Basement club Didcot were again lamenting their misfortune when Jamie Davidson pulled Wimborne level 12 minutes later with a 25-yard free-kick, which deflected off the wall past Beesley. The second half hinged on a ten-minute goal spree by Wimborne, with Matt Kemble, Billy Maybury and Shaun Brian inflicting the damage.
And to rub salt into the wounds, Didcot lost both Sam Elkins and Joel Meade in the second half to injury.
Didcot Tn: Beesley, Elkins (Longford 61), S Parish, Carnell, Meade (J Parish 75), McKirnan, Mills, Baines, Joyce (Blenford 80), Haysham, Janes.
