Abingdon Town drew 1-1 at home to Newbury Town in their first game under new manager Paul Davis on Saturday.

The new boss gave Uhlsport Hellenic League debuts to three new signings – Ryan Carroll, Nertil Salkuti and Leam Howards – against third-from-bottom outfit Newbury.

And Howards, 18, previously of Coventry City & Banbury United, put the Abbots ahead before Brad-ley Shaw replied for New-bury.

The result still leaves Abingdon at the bottom of the Premier Division.

But the improved display would have pleased Davis, who was previously assistant manager at Didcot Town.

The 27-year-old had been keen to take over the Railwaymen following the departure of Andy Wall-bridge.

But they appointed club legends Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy instead.

Davis did not have to wait long, filling the vacancy left by Gavin Jones’ resignation at Culham Road.

Davis brought along Ryan Gurton and Darren Booker to assist him as coaches.

It proved a good day for Abingdon’s struggling clubs.

Abingdon United beat Wootton Bassett Town 4-3 at Northcourt Road, with Matt Woodley netting a hat-trick and Adam Garner completing the scoring.

Adam Corcoran (2) and Kyle Rigley replied.

Shrivenham are showing signs of improved form with a 3-1 home win over Bracknell Town.

Steve Robertson scored twice together with a goal from Matt Bown for Shrivenham. Jake White netted for Bracknell.

A James Glover strike was in vain as Letcombe crashed 6-1 at Shortwood United Res in Division 1 West.
