Didcot Town have received a close season boost by signing prolific striker Ryan Brooks from Ardley United.

Brooks scored 50 goals last season in Ardley’s title challenge in the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division, in which they finished two points behind champions Wantage Town.

The former Oxford United youth player has also been the Hellenic League’s top scorer twice in the past three seasons.

The Railwaymen’s joint managers Ian Concannon and Jamie Heapy are delighted with their capture ahead of the new season in Southern League Division 1 South & West.

Concannon said: “We’ve been keeping tabs on him since we’ve been managers and is a player who will strengthen what is already a strong forward line.

“The thought of pairing him with John Mills up front is an exciting proposition and between the pair of them, there are plenty of goals there.”

Meanwhile, Oxford United fans could get a chance to see their popular former striker James Constable in action, when his new club Eastleigh visit Didcot in a pre-season friendly at the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium next Monday (7.30pm).

Constable left the Kassam Stadium for the Skrill Premier club in May, when a goal short of equalling U’s scoring record.
