Abingdon United will have to overturn huge odds on Saturday if they are to reach the third qualifying round of the FA Cup.

Manager Andy Zoldan’s team entertain Southern League Premier Division side Dorchester Town, who last season stunned Plymouth Argyle with a shock 1-0 first-round victory.

The Dorset side are struggling this season, placed 19th in the league.

But it is still a daunting test for Abingdon, who are one off the bottom in the Uhlsport Hellenic League, still seeking their first win.

“This will be the toughest test for the team since I took over last season,” said Zoldan.

“Dorchester have recently changed managers and had a positive response with two wins, including beating Hungerford on Saturday.

“We are going through a tough time in the league, not gaining the points I believe the performances deserve.

“The cup has been a welcome distraction.

“I know the players will give everything and on the day anything can happen.”

Victory would take Abingdon’s earnings from their FA Cup run to more than £10,000.

Graham Edney and Aaron Andrews are unavailable for Abingdon, but Tom Butler may return after injury.

Before the tie, they face a league game at Cheltenham Saracens tonight.

Wantage Town’s hopes of joining Abingdon in the second qualifying round were dashed when they lost 2-1 to Flackwell Heath after extra time in last week’s replay.

The clash looked all set for penalties before Flackwell’s Dan Rapley netted the winner in the 120th minute.

Rapley had put Flackwell Heath on the hour, before Jimmy Deabill equalised for the home side.
