A DOMINANT display, including a brace from Lance Williams, gave Didcot Town a convincing 5-1 victory at home to Larkhall Athletic on Saturday, despite the dismissal of skipper Luke Carnell.

It took Didcot just 90 seconds to take the lead in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West clash.

A long throw from Andy Ballard was only cleared to Marvin Martin, who fired his effort into the top corner, before Williams made it 2-0 in the tenth minute.

Didcot, who gave a debut to Oxford United youth player George Jeacock, got the deserved third before the break when Williams played in Jack Self to fire home his first Didcot goal in his 72nd appearance for the club.

Despite playing into the wind in the second half, Didcot added a fourth just after the restart when Ballard headed home Adam Learoyd’s cross.

Carnell was sent off ten minutes from time for blocking a goalbound effort with his arm and Larkhall’s Jamie Lyon converted the resultant penalty.

Williams confirmed the victory five minutes from time when he slotted home for his second.

The game ended on a sour note when visiting striker Dean Griffiths was sent off after an altercation with Williams.

Griffiths continued to remonstrate with the referee before squaring up to a supporter as he left the field.
