IAN Concannon admitted he loved every minute as Didcot Town joint manager, despite being forced to quit.

The club's record goalscorer ended a two-year stay as boss this week for personal reasons, informing his players after Tuesday's 3-0 win over Bridgwater Town.

Along with fellow joint manager Jamie Heapy, who has also stepped down, the Railwaymen reached the first round of this season's Emirates FA Cup, earning in the region of £100,000 after their home tie with Exeter City was shown live on television.

And Concannon feels the club are in a better place than when he took over in November 2013.

"I said as a player that one day I would love to manage this club, and I have done that," he said.

"Myself and Jamie started with a win and ended with a win, which was nice.

"I look back on the two years and feel we have made very steady progress and of course the highlight was getting through five rounds of the FA Cup, playing in front of a full house live on TV this season.

"That was an amazing experience, but some things are more important."

Both Concannon and Heapy were members of the Didcot side that won the FA Vase ten years ago. Indeed Heapy was playing this season until being sidelined by injury.

Defender Andy Ballard has been placed in temporary charge of the team, with coach Andy Sinnott as his assistant.
