INDIVIDUAL errors were to blame for Wantage Town’s 3-0 defeat at home to Paulton Rovers, according to player-manager Stuart Cattell.

The hosts competed well in the first half against a team relegated from the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division last season, but went behind two minutes before the break to Kailan Gould’s goal.

Two minutes after half-time, Paulton doubled their advantage, when a shot deflected in off Cattell for an own goal.

After Harry Hall fired just wide for Wantage, the visitors sealed the victory with a 53rd-minute goal from Elliott Gibbons.

Cattell said he was not too downhearted about the own goal.

“It was just one of those days for me,” he said.

“But you’ll have days like that and the important thing is that you move on quickly from it and don’t get too down.

“I didn’t really feel it was a 3-0 game – it was just a couple of silly errors which cost us.

“We had five or six really good opportunities to score and we’re actually disappointed we didn’t come away from the game with a point, despite what the final scoreline might suggest.”
