ADAM Learoyd’s late header earned Didcot Town a point at south Oxfordshire rivals Wantage Town on Bank Holiday Monday.

For the second time in three days, the Freds found themselves pegged back after taking an early lead in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West encounter.

Former Didcot striker Mark Francis fired Wantage in front on 16 minutes, taking advantage of Kieran Collins' weak header back to goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell to nip in first and put the ball in to the back of the empty net.

Collins and Jack Longford then went close for the visitors just before half-time.

The Railwaymen went on to dominate the second half, but Ben Whitehead headed wide, while Declan Benjamin failed to hit the target.

But the equaliser did arrive on 78 minutes when centre-back Learoyd headed home a corner.

There was one last chance for the visitors to earn victory, but after Wantage keeper Eddie Cavanagh saved an initial effort, Luke Carnell could only head the rebound over.

On Saturday, Didcot and Larkhall Athletic played out a goalless draw.

Whitehead and Longford went close for the hosts in the first half.

After the break, Jordan Graham saw a header saved and Whitehead fired wide.

But Larkhall could have won it at the death, with Bedwell denying Kyle Tooze.
