Didcot’s Town’s five-match winning run in the Evo-Stik Southern league came to an unexpected halt when they let slip a half-time lead to lose 3-2 at Yate Town.

The hosts took the lead after 14 minutes of the Diviison 1 South & West game , when a defensive lapse allowed Jack Ball to round helpless keeper Leigh Bedwell and score.

Three minutes later, Ben Whitehead profited from the defensive mix-up at the other end, to equalise with a shot past home keeper Harvey Rivers.

Didcot continued to probe and after an excellently weighted ball over the top by Sam Elkins, Whitehead was upended by Rivers.

Whitehead speared the resulting penalty into the bottom right corner to give the visitors the lead.

Two minutes after the break, sloppy work allowed Kyle Thomas to make it 2-2.

Yate scored the winner in the 70th minute when the unmarked Ball headed in from a corner.

Only a point-blank save by Rivers denied Didcot’s James Organ a headed equaliser in injury time.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell; Elkins, Organ, O Thomas (Janes 62), Ballard, Learoyd, Barder, Benjamin, B Whitehead, McNish, Davis (Noble 66). Subs not used: H Whitehead, Lovegrove, Tatford. Attendance: 139.

A late goal cruelly denied struggling Wantage Town victory away to AFC Totton, who scrambled a 2-2 draw.

The visitors twice led with first-half goals from Daniel Sadler and Mark Francis.

Marley Ridge scored the first equaliser for Totton, who seemed certain to lose before Neil Williams came up with an injury-time goal.
