DIDCOT Town boss Andy Ballard is excited about the potential of George Jeacock after signing the former Oxford United forward ahead of the visit of play-off hopefuls Salisbury tomorrow.

The 19-year-old graduated from the U’s youth set-up, having been top scorer for Oxford’s under 18 side last season.

He was awarded a senior contract last May, but his deal was terminated last month by mutual consent and he has returned to Didcot, where he spent six weeks on loan in 2015.

“It’s a big signing for us,” said player-manager Andy Ballard.

“He’s a young local talent with his whole career ahead of him.

“He wants to be a professional footballer, no doubt about it.

“He was gutted to have to leave Oxford because he’s very ambitious.

“He wants to get noticed and get back into the professional ranks and we’re happy to give him the platform to do that.”

Declan Benjamin faces a fitness test after missing last weekend’s 2-2 draw at Bideford with a hamstring injury.

Ryan Barney (hamstring) and Jack Longford (knee) are out.

Tomorrow’s trip to Shortwood United could potentially be Bradley Gray’s last outing for North Leigh after they received a seven-day approach from promotion-chasing Evesham United for the midfielder.

Boss John Brough admitted losing him would be a big blow.

“I want to keep him, because if he plays well, we’ll win most games,” he said.

“Evesham have obviously noticed that and identified him as a player they want.

“Fingers crossed he chooses to remain with us.”

The Millers are without midfielder Jon Else, who starts a three-match suspension, while Morgan Williams is doubtful with a dead leg.

Connor Thompson is expected to get the nod in goal once again, while North Leigh clear up the eligibility of on-loan stopper Manny Agboola.

The teenager was withdrawn from the squad at late notice on Tuesday evening due to uncertainty over his eligibility, having been recalled by parent club Oxford United for last weekend’s Emirates FA Cup match,

Wantage Town look to end a run of 12 games without victory away to Winchester City.

Julian McCalmon called for greater consistency from his Kidlington side ahead of their trip to struggling Aylesbury in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 Central .

The Greens have not won back-to-back games since September, but the manager believes Tuesday’s 1-0 victory at Arlesey Town could prove a turning point.

“Hopefully, this is the catalyst that sees us kick on and win three or four on the bounce,” said McCalmon.

“We’ve not put as many points on the board as we would have liked, but hopefully now the penny has dropped.

“In the last couple of weeks, the players have really shown me the desire and drive to get results.”

Henry Owen and Mark Janes both return to the squad after recovering from rib and foot injuries respectively.

But Kristian Thomas and Chris Weedon have aggravated knee injuries which will keep them out long-term, while Ben Weedon remains sidelined with a hamstring problem.
