DIDCOT Town ended the game with nine men as they were beaten 1-0 by promotion favourites Salisbury in the Evo-Stik Southern League.

Striker George Jeacock, making his return for the Railwaymen, and goalkeeper Leigh Bedwell were both shown second yellow cards late on in the Division 1 South & West clash.

The narrow defeat was only Didcot’s second loss at home since September.

The visitors looked more dangerous in front of goal in the first half, with Bedwell denying Brandon Mundy, before brilliantly keeping out Lewis Benson’s free-kick.

Salisbury broke the deadlock on 35 minutes, though, when Justin Bennett headed home Mundy’s cross.

Didcot enjoyed a decent spell early in the second half and could have equalised when the ball fell to Ben Whitehead in a goalmouth scramble, but he was unable to get a shot away.

Sam Barder also twice went close as the home side pushed for an equaliser.

But with Didcot throwing everything into the game, Jeacock was shown a second yellow card for a late tackle.

It got worse for Didcot as Bedwell was sent up for a corner and was booked for a foul in the area.

However, after making a comment to the referee he was awarded a second yellow to end a disappointing day for the Railwaymen.

Didcot Tn: Bedwell, Elkins, Janes, Ballard (Thomas 12), Cattell, Learoyd, Barder, McNish, Whitehead, Joyce (Jeacock 71), Thorne (Andrady 58). Subs not used: Benjamin, Tanner.

Wantage Town’s woes continued when they lost 3-0 at Winchester City.

The visitors bravely held out until half-time.

But they then fell to a brace of goals from Craig Feeney in the 49th and 70th minutes, either side of a 59th minute strike from Stuart Green.

North Leigh’s match at Shortwood United was abandoned due to a waterlogged pitch

A magnificent first-time volley from Lewis Coyle gave Kidlington a 1 - 0 win at ten-man Aylesbury in Division 1 Central.

Goalkeeper Sam Warrell was forced into a couple of early saves for the visitors.

But Kidlington soon took the lead on 21 minutes, thanks to Coyle’s 25-yard strike, which arrowed into the top corner, giving goalkeeper James Weatherall no chance.

The second half was a stop-start affair as the pitch cut up, but Callum Harvey forced Weatherall into a save on 55 minutes.

Aylesbury had Alex O’Brian sent off with ten minutes to go for an alleged stamp on Tommy Castle as Kidlington comfortably saw out the victory.

Kidlington: Warrell, Quainton, Castle, Flanagan, Franklin, E Odhiambo, Coyle, Osborne-Ricketts, A Odhiambo, Dunmall, Harvey (Janes 57). Subs not used: Owen, Wise.

Attendance: 64.
