DIDCOT Town are waiting to hear if they will have to replay Saturday’s fixture at home to Hereford which was abandoned in controversial circumstances.

Just after runaway leaders Hereford had gone 2-1 ahead in the 88th minute, there was a pitch invasion, which started when the Didcot keeper Leigh Bedwell was confronted by a Hereford supporter.

After a ten-minute hiatus during which the police were called to usher supporters off the pitch – and make two arrests – referee Wayne Chalmers abandoned the Division 1 South & West game.

After receiving the referee’s report, the league are bound to investigate the incident and decide what sanctions to take and whether to replay the match.

The game had already been packed with incident with both sides having a player sent off.

It was already a high-profile affair with former Didcot players John Mills and Pablo Haysham making their return to the Draycott Engineering Loop Meadow Stadium.

Didcot went ahead early on when Hereford’s Ryan Green brought new signing George Reid down outside the box.

Chalmers deemed Green to be last man and sent off him for the second time between the sides this season. Reid fired home the resulting free-kick.

The contest became ten against ten just before the hour when Didcot defender Stuart Cattell was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

Shortly afterwards, Hereford were awarded a penalty which Mills fired home.

The visitors took the lead two minutes from time, Mike Symons scoring from a corner.

This led to the pitch invasion and the abandonment.
