ANDY Ballard is eager for Didcot Town to move on from the pitch invasion which has clouded the past month of their campaign.

Earlier this week, defender Sam Elkins was handed a five-match ban for his part in the fracas against Hereford on March 4, which led to the game being abandoned.

The 27-year-old was found guilty of improper and/or violent conduct by a Football Association disciplinary panel and will miss the rest of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West season.

Didcot coach Sam Parish has been suspended for four matches after being found guilty of the same charge.

The FA had already confirmed that neither club will face any further action after an investigation, while a league decision will be made shortly over whether the match will be replayed.

Player-manager Ballard said: “It’s pleasing to know there is no further action against the club.

“The length of time sorting out the issue hasn’t been great, but we now need to move on.

“Sam (Elkins) has been magnificent for us this season.

“It’s a real shame to lose him, but he’s taken responsibility and accepted his punishment.”

The Railwaymen turn their attention to tomorrow’s opponents Bridgwater, who were relegated in midweek, and Ballard is expecting a victory.

He said: “Everything is pointing at a Didcot win and, although I won’t count my chickens, I expect us to perform and get the points.”

Jack Longford is ruled out with a knee injury.

North Leigh will bid to make it four wins on the trot when they face a swift return match against Bishops Cleeve at Eynsham Park.

The Millers ran out 2-1 victors against the Gloucestershire outfit in midweek, thanks to two Jamie Cook penalties.

Boss John Brough said: “Tuesday was tough and I’m sure it’ll add a bit of fuel onto the fire that we play them again so quickly – especially the manner in which we won with a late penalty.”

Roger James returns to the squad.

Meanwhile, Wantage Town will be relegated if they lose away to champions Hereford.

In Division 1 Central, keeper Sam Warrell and defender Tom Franklin are suspended for Kidlington’s trip to Egham Town.

Anaclet Odhiambo returns, but Henry Owen, Kristen Thomas and Ben Weedon are injured.
