AN injury to defender Stuart Cattell marred Didcot Town’s 2-0 friendly defeat at home to Oxford United Under 23s.

Cattell hobbled off early on with a niggle in his hamstring, with player-manager Andy Ballard taking his place.

After Matt Woodley missed a great chance to put the Evo-Stik League South West side ahead, United made them pay with a clinical finish.

James Roberts robbed Ballard slipped and it under keeper Leigh Bedwell to give the visitors the lead.

Adam Learoyd had a golden chance to equalise, but prodded over from close range.

At half-time, Didcot introduced Ollie Thomas for Lewis Hayden, who picked up a calf strain, while Sam Barder replaced Ballard.

United soon added a second gaol through Albie Hopkins, and only some fine saves from Bedwell prevented them adding to their tally.

George Jeacock, who came on for Didcot late in the game, should have added to his two goals during the week, but headed wide from Woodley’s corner.

Kidlington claimed early bragging rights with a 3-1 victory at home to Evo-Stik League South West rivals North Leigh in a pre-season friendly at Yarnton Lane.

Anaclet Odhiambo put the Greens ahead in the ninth minute from Lewis Coyle’s corner.

Five minutes before the break, Coyle conjured up a fine individual goal, hammering a shot home from a narrow angle to make it 2-0.

Early in the second half, Kidlington had appeals for penalty turned down after Odhiambo appeared to be upended in the area.

The Millers pulled a goal back in the 62nd when Will Wellon hammered home the rebound following a save by home keeper Bojan Tetek.

Kidlington sealed the victory late on when substitute Callum Harvey cut inside at pace and fired a blistering shot under the advancing keeper.

Kaylem Patterson scored a hat-trick as Ardley United won 4-1 at home to Buckingham Town.

Their final goal came from Finn Sanders.

Letcombe drew 2-2 at home to fellow Uhlsport Hellenic League side Abingdon Town.

After going behind early on to a goal from Aaron Andrews, Letcombe netted two goals in two minutes through skipper Andy Goodchild and Jordan Davies to take a 2-1 lead.
