London Welsh 20 (tries Jewell, D Browne; cons Barkley 2; pens Barkley 2

Bordeaux Begles 52 (tries Domvo 2, Blanc, Talebula, Maynadier, Clarkin, Bernard; cons Bernard 6, Beauxis; pen Bernard)

London Welsh's hunt for a first win of the season shows little sign of ending after they were comprehensively outplayed at the Kassam Stadium.

Bordeaux Begles were just too quick and too slick for their more pedestrian hosts, scoring seven tries and threatening every time they attacked.

The Exiles made their fair share of errors, but simply weren't as clinical as their impressive visitors.

One positive, at least, was a larger than expected crowd of 3,575 considering the match was on BT Sport.

Bordeaux had lost their previous 14 matches against English opposition and initially looked if they might continue their sorry streak.

Welsh made a great start and led via centre Olly Barkley's third-minute penalty.

Bordeaux coughed up three knock-ons in the first six minutes and then saw Barkley miss a second more difficult penalty.

Within a minute, the visitors had scored an excellent counter-attacking try full of slick passing and finished by wing Lucas Blanc.

Barkley and Bernard traded penalties to leave Bordeaux 10-6 ahead in an entertaining clash.

Welsh wing Rhys Crane looked to be away before his side were penalised for crossing.

The Exiles were badly exposed on the right flank after losing the ball in Bordeaux's 22 and shipped a second counter-attacking try.

Wing Metuisela Talebula, the top try scorer in last season's French Top 14, showed more than enough pace to get home, although his grounding had to be checked by the television match official (TMO).

Bernard converted this and a third via a powerful catch-and-drive effort finished by hooker Clement Maynadier.

In between Talebula knocked on when well placed, but Bordeaux had a fourth try before half-time.

No 8 and skipper Matthew Clarkin applied the finishing touch after his side exposed more ragged defence.

Bernard's conversion made it 31-6, despite Welsh having had 64 per cent of the possession.

The Exiles came out fired up and scored first when fly half Gordon Ross slipped in full back Seb Jewell for their opening try, Barkley converting.

However, two quick Bordeaux scores extinguished any feint hopes of a comeback.

Bernard dummied his way over for the first and full back Darly Domvo finished a flowing move for the second, Bernard converting both.

Bordeaux had used all their replacements by just after the hour mark, with mercurial French international fly half Lionel Beauxis among those introduced.

Welsh converted some decent pressure into a close-range try for replacement Daniel Browne on 72 minutes, with Barkley converting.

But Domvo motored through for his second try late on, converted by Beauxis, as Welsh conceded 50 points for the fourth time this season.
