HENLEY Hawks took another step towards being crowned National 2 South champions with a 28-13 win at Redruth.

Fly half James Comben scored 13 points as Hawks maintained their 15-point cushion at the top of the table with four games left to play.

A bonus point victory against struggling Shelford on March 28 will secure promotion to National 1.

Hawks started strongly, with Dave Clements driving over and Comben landing a penalty for 8-0.

Rory Westren got the scoreboard ticking for the hosts with a penalty, but Comben replied to ensure Henley led 11-3 at the break.

Hawks faced a revitalised Redruth after half-time, and Kyle Marriot was driven over for an unconverted try.

But Henley responded with Jake Randall skipping through four tackles to touch down. Comben converted.

The Hawks fly half kicked his side further in front with a penalty, but Redruth replied through Rhodri McAtee’s try.

With 15 minutes to go, Henley piled on the pressure and were awarded a penalty try, with Comben converting from in front of the posts.

Chinnor’s top-five hopes suffered a setback after they were beaten 35-14 by Taunton Titans.

They are four points behind Worthing, who occupy fifth place.

However, Chinnor’s defeat was overshadowed by a nasty injury to Ricardo Cano who required 30 stitches to his ear.

A Gary Kingdom penalty gave Taunton a 3-0 lead, but Chinnor replied with Jake Olley going over. Reece Boughton converting.

However, it was predominantly one-way traffic after that with a converted penalty try giving Taunton a 10-7 lead.

Kingdom landed a penalty and Tom Popham and Lewis Webb also went over. Kingdom added the extras.

After half-time, Kingdom added another penalty and Jack Claydon went over.

Chinnor had the last say with Junior Fatialofa crossing. Boughton converted.
